I needed to know when Mardi Gras will be this year and next year. I did a quick Google and found the actual day will always fall on a Tuesday, therefore it is called “Fat Tuesday,” and it can be anywhere between February 3 and March 9.
The entire Carnival season and celebration always starts on January 6, which is the “Twelfth Night” or also called the “Feast of Epiphany. So there are parades and parties almost every weekend from the middle of January through Fat Tuesday.
All the fun comes to an end at Midnight on Mardi Gras, the day before Ash Wednesday., which is when Lent begins. Ash Wednesday is always going to be 46 days before Easter and Fat Tuesday is always the day before Ash Wednesday.
Easter is the holiday that changes so much each year. It can fall on any Sunday from March 23 to April 25. The exact date of Easter coincides with the first Sunday after the full moon following a Spring Equinox!
Whew! If all of this is too much to absorb, you can always go to one of the big Mardi Gras web sites and look up the dates on their site. But I did want to know why it changes around and thought it would be cool to share the info here.

Today is an exciting day for football fans. Actually, I think the Super Bowl is a huge part of American culture now – it is almost un-American to not watch the Super Bowl and cheer for one of the two teams playing for the National Championship of our country’s favorite sport!
The Saints take on the Colts at 5:30 this afternoon, but pre game shows will be on almost all day long. I’m so excited to be watching at home with my kids! We bought a couple of frozen pizzas at the grocery store and we will have Pepsi and Pizza for dinner while we watch the game. The kids are a little young to understand the game itself, but I think they need to be exposed to the game in a friendly and helpful environment here at home first. Then, next year perhaps we will have a little party with a few friends over. And I know they will all enjoy watching the best commercials of the year on the show!

The huge snow storm in the Washington DC and Maryland area has everyone freaking out. I’ve been trying all day to call my sister’s cell phone and check on her, but I can’t get through. It seems like a lot of the cell towers are overloaded or not functioning properly because of the snowstorm.
One of the big problems with emergency situations is that people rely on their cell phones and the internet for more and more in their daily lives. In fact, if the internet goes down in the largest chain convenience stores, they cannot do business and have to close down until the internet is restored. But they all rely on cable internet connections and none of them have dial-up for their business internet.
In my opinion, it would be a smart business decision to sign up for a cheap dial up service as an internet backup. that way, if the cable and dsl internet providers are shut down or disrupted, you can switch over to dial up and still get online.
I think that if your entire business or livelihood depends on constant access to internet services, then it makes sense to have a back up plan for your internet connection so you don’t go offline and lose out on a lot of business.

My friends tell me that they have measured over 30 inches of snow in their yard already – and it is still snowing! It is a winter wonderland all over Virginia, West Virginia, DC and Maryland! It’s not even noon there yet – I wonder how much they will actually get??>

My friends and family who live in the Washington DC area and outlying areas tell me that they are bracing for another huge snowstorm tomorrow that will last into the weekend. They still have snow on the ground from the last storm, and now they are expecting another 30″ or more on top of that! My goodness! That much snow would paralyze Nashville for weeks!
I hope the weather forecast is just a little on the heavy side with doom and gloom and that it turns out to be less snow than that. I know my brother is looking forward to getting out with all his big boy toys like a big tractor, a heavy duty snow blower, a winch and chain on the front of his truck, etc. Boys will be boys – and will so will a lot of middle aged men!
