Pretty Woman Goes Shopping

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

I love this scene from “Pretty Woman.” The best part of the whole movie! I especially love the false, forced flattery from the store manager. LOL!

Dishes

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

When I first got married, choosing my kitchen dishes and flatware was one of the most fun and important tasks. I felt that the pattern I chose would be a reflection on my personality and I worked very hard on shopping all the different types and styles and designs to find the right look for my new kitchen.

My mother used china for both every day and formal table settings. So, in my rebellion, I decided to choose a Corelle set. I don’t have that dinnerware set any more, but I loved it and I miss it. Maybe I’ll go shopping for a new dinnerware pattern after Christmas and start off next year with new kitchen decor and supplies.

Fresh Veggies

Sunday, July 25th, 2010

Our Farmer’s Market got flooded back in May, but there are still produce stands all over the place to get fresh local vegetables. I especially like the Mennonites who raise their vegetables organically and sell their produce throughout the Hohenwald area. That makes a new day trip in the car plus we bring home baskets of great food to cook and share.

This time I’m searching for fresh corn on the cob and fresh green beans. I don’t mind cooking up large batches and putting them up in jars or in the freezer for use later. I especially like fresh green beans that I cook up in huge pots with good seasoning. Then I put them in 3-serving size plastic zip bags and freeze them for future dinner sides.

My kitchen is tiny but very functional and I love to cook, so I am always looking for new gadgets and appliances to help me cook faster or better, like blenders and mixers. I check a web site called ShopWiki for new kitchen products and good deals. Even if I don’t need a new toaster oven for myself, sometimes that would make a great wedding gift or housewarming gift for friends and family. So it’s good to shop around and keep things in mind or bookmark the best ones so you can come back later and get the best kitchen gear.

Happy Birthday Miss Donna!

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

For as long as I can remember, my mom’s best friend has been Miss Donna. They grew up together and stayed friends all through college, husbands, kids and even moves across country.

Today is Miss Donna’s birthday, and although I won’t have the chance to visit with her today, I’ve sent her a Hallmark birthday card and am wishing her the happiest of days today and those to come.

Ticket Shopping

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Making plans for the rest of our summer with the kids and family. Between my parents and my brothers and sisters and their families, we have a lot of fun things to look forward to in July and August.

I found PNC Bank Center Tickets on the internet and picked an event for me and the girls in our family. I love Jack Johnson and so do my sisters. It’s going to be a girls weekend out in New York!

Then I found New Meadowlands Stadium Tickets for a boys day out in August. Everyone loves a soccer game in the summer and its even more fun when a bunch of us can get together and go to a game with good seats together. This one is world class, too. The USA team plays Brazil. If you’ve been watching the World cup games this month, you know how good these players are. No matter who wins the World Cup in July, this game in August will be top notch.

I want to find one other like minded person to go with me to Chicago in October to see Cheech and Chong. I’m buying two Chicago Theatre Tickets for their show and I want to have some grown up fun laughing my butt off. These two guys are the embodiment of “Let’s get stupid!”

Lemon Doughnuts

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

Just saw a commercial for Krispy Kreme doughnuts. They are having a summer special of lemon icing, lemon filling and all things lemon. I love lemons and the lemon filled sounds really yummy. I think I will leave a little early for work one morning next week and pick up a couple dozen doughnuts to share with everyone at the office.

Pink Toenails

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

It is amazing what a pedicure can do for a woman’s ego and state of mind. I have newly painted pink toenails and I feel like I can conquer the world! The pedicure experience is nice in and of itself. The foot soak, the cleansing, the back and calf massage are all very relaxing and rejuvenating. But showing the world my bright pink toenails every day for about 2 weeks is like a badge of courage!

Talk To Me

Tonight I have been on the phone with 3 different friends and have not gotten any work done at home at all. I fed the kids and did the bedtime routine with the phone on one ear!

Toothpaste

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

When did toothpaste get so expensive? I can understand if there is something special about the toothpaste, like the Sensodyne toothpaste for people with sensitive teeth. But just plain Colgate or Crest is about $5 for one tube. And the Sensodyne is $8 for one tube. This is expensive for people trying to keep to a budget. I don’t see why toothpaste should be more than $3 for a tube. There’s not much of anything in there!

Dress to Impress

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

Although I don’t talk about womens fashion on my blog very often, I can promise you that I care very much about fashion and nice clothing. I usually do try to dress to impress, unless I have taken sick and am staying in bed.

Do you like to see what the stars wear on the red carpet before awards shows? That is one thing I always look at because I love celebrity fashion. There are always a handful of celebrities who wear gorgeous, stunning dresses and then there are always dozens of women who dress like they really have no clue what style dress looks good on their figure.

Glamour on the red carpet is a rare event and women who have the opportunity to attend an awards show or a grand opening should make the most of the moment. They should bring a trusted, wonderful friend or family member who will honestly say, “that dress looks wonderful,” or, “that dress does nothing for you.”
