Liar Liar

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

Read a joke on Facebook that was really funny. It was not from one of my friends. He had posted it on another friend’s wall as a comment to a thread I was sharing with her.

Anyways, the joke was about a fisherman’s encounter with God and being tested by God. The story is really long, but the point of the story is that if a man lies, it is because he has good reason.

The story was funny. But the point of the story is not funny to me. I don’t thin there are very many good reasons to lie. I am trying really hard to teach my children to be honest and truthful. This is very hard in today’s world when everyone around you seems to think lying is OK. If you listen critically to most of the sitcoms on TV, the entire episodes are based on lies and liars and we are expected to accept that as entertainment.

One Day at a Time

one-day

Busy Busy

Friday, August 6th, 2010

There is an old folklore type of saying that I heard around here once in a while. When someone is very busy, you can say that they are “busier than a one armed paper hanger.” Now, I am not sure that this is politically correct any more. After all, you are referring to a disabled person. But then again, it is meant to illustrate that someone is very busy. And if you were a paper hanger by trade and happened to have a disability such as having only one arm, then you would be very busy.

Cats and Dogs

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

There are people who love dogs and there are people who love cats. Some people love both dogs and cats. Some people have no interest in animals or household pets at all.

I wonder what makes some people so fanatical about pets and others are so stone cold unconcerned? I wonder if it is a gene that we are born with that makes us compassionate? Or is it something that happens in our childhood that affects our ability to care for people and animals?

I have always loved dogs and I have had a few cats, too. But my first hubby was allergic to cats, so I had to find a new home for mine. That was a mistake. I should have keep my cat – I would have been better off.

Moody today. You all have been warned. There’s no good reason for it. Just give me some space and we might all survive.

Two Sides of Health Care

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

Have you ever noticed that people get very passionate about various health charities when someone in their family gets a diagnosis with that particular disease? Isn’t it a shame that we don’t seem to care about something that affects thousands of other people until it affects someone in our own circle? I was just talking with someone who is looking for a Mesothelioma Attorney, and it made me start to think about all the people suffering from the lesser known and less supported illnesses and disabilities.

When someone gets their first diagnosis, our thoughts turn to the quality of the medical care available. We want the best we can afford and the fortunate ones have good health insurance to help pay for that care.

And then, a lot of people start thinking about who they can blame. That’s how a Mesothelioma Lawyer helps people. Because this is a disease that may have been preventable and now thousands of people have the disease and are suffering.

This is a disease that is rare but everyone has probably at least heard of, Mesothelioma Disease. I’m sure you have seen a late night commercial or read something in a news oriented magazine to be familiar with the word. But have you heard of any celebrities organizing a telethon or big concert to fund research or a cure? No.

Happy Fourth of July!

Another Fourth of July with my kids and family! I feel so blessed to have such good, loving people so close to me. And I feel very blessed to live in America, the greatest country in the world!

Flattery

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

There is a scene in an old movie that caught my attention right away and has stuck with me. Do you remember the movie, “Pretty Woman,” with Richard Gere and Julia Roberts? There are several really good lines in that movie, but one of my all time favorites is when she goes back to Rodeo Drive with him to go shopping. Here is a Youtube clip of it – I live this!

Left or Right?

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

My Facebook has a red white and blue wreath application for Memorial Day that I posted.

The wreath app asked me to click that I “like” being conservative and showed an old picture of President Reagan.

I don’t know if I AM conservative. I don’t think that I am particularly liberal, either. How do you know if you are left or right?

Maybe I don’t fit any of those labels. And that’s OK.
