Don’t speak Swedish? English Translation:

0:10 Can we get more people to choose the stairs if we make it more fun?

1:08 After the change, 66% more people chose the stairs in favor of the escalators

1:28 Apparently, yes, joy can change behavior

1:34 We call it “the fun theory”

1:44 This was an initiative from the people at Volkswagen

Custom Tee Shirts

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

I’m going to collect special sayings and phrases and look into having custom tee shirts printed up so I can sell them online. I have some great ideas. Some would be motivational and some would be just humorous.

Check out this one:

Birthday Party Invitation

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

My daughter will be having her 5th birthday with her father and stepmother, since they have custody of the kids this year. That’s fine, as her stepmother does not work outside the home and I get to have them for two months this summer. But it’s the holidays and birthdays that make me miss them, and I can’t go to Canada in early May to be at her birthday party. But she’s going to have a great little party at her house in Vancouver, with a bunch of other little girls to run around and giggle and have fun playing girlie games.

Her stepmother took a photo and imported it into a website program that lets you custom make birthday party invitations and other social cards, like birth announcements, party invitations, Izzyprints and thank you notes. The website is called Izzyprints and it has some really cute designs.

The birthday party invitation for my daughter was all girl, with pink polka dots, a customized verse and all the party details. Her stepmother sent me one so I could have it and I guess to also invite me, although they already know I can’t make it. But I know she will have a great time and we’ll have out own little party really soon!

So How Do We Fix the Web, Really?

So How Do We Fix the Web, Really? via Molly

“Here are thoughts I’ve been having since I wrote the post “HTML5 and XHTML 1.1 Must Stop For Now.” There were many fine responses and discussion of various viewpoints, which of course was part of the point of the blog post in the first place.

We are, each of us, shaped by the experiences we have. It’s funny that skeptics would suggest that Microsoft has me drinking too much kool-aid, or that the WHAT WG has my ear, or that I just want to shake up the W3C. The truth is to some extent all these are accurate: I do maintain my defense of Microsoft, I respect the WHAT WG members and have talked to many of them in depth about this issue, and my esteemed colleagues at the W3C have certainly gained my respect and love over the years, if not my general distaste for the processes and in-fighting that’s historically shaped the organization.

As we are shaped by our experiences, I want to point out that mine are perhaps unique. I’m an independent developer who has worked the Web since 1993, in IT since 1988, and when I caught the standards bug I threw my time, money and passion into ensuring that I went out and shook hands with as many people as I could. I might talk a lot, but I do a lot of listening too, and I’ve had the tremendous good fortune to travel the world and speak with designers and developers in every possible work environment, with every conceivable skill sets, passions and needs.”

A really great post and everyone who likes to learn from others’ experiences sure can learn a lot from Molly’s post and blog.

Worpal

Friday, April 13th, 2007

Getting together with a few friends launching a joint venture project code named Worpal which will be a half Wordpress and a half Drupal opensource project. Without the www. will be the worpdress blogs and the Drupal blogs will be with the www. so for example a a Wordpress blog will be located at wordpress.worpal.com and a drupal blog will be at www.worpal.com/drupal.

We have been scratching our heads on the best way to get this project done and have been going to some local PHP user groups here in town to learn more about PHPs and have logged into Googles webmaster counsel, only to be more confused since it lets you choose only one way for Google to look at your website (either with or without the www). And this is just the beginning it only gets more complicated as both open source projects are at their infancy compared to where they will be in 10 years or 20.

Margrets Diamonds

Thursday, February 15th, 2007

Was happy to hear about my friends Margrets launch of her website designed for womens diamond jewelry called “Eves Diamonds.” Have been helping her take photos and videos of some of her jewelry to put on her new diamonds website. Has been fun dressing up in million dollar jewels for the past couple of weeks and going out around town!

Mrs Selena Jackson

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

Mrs Selena Jackson is a long time friend who has been designing mobile websites with standards as a hobby. She builds websites using Flash and AJAX, and has made a few great sites for me over the years.

She and a couple of her friends are working a a project named Flashtising which will sell Flash ad space on websites. Because it is written in Flash it is search engine friendly. I will probably be using them once she gets the company up and running on my blog.

Blogs away

Monday, January 1st, 2007

This is my blog about mobile designs and life as a mother of two, along with stuff in between. I hope you enjoy reading my posts!

I have alot of bookmarks to clear out of my favorites and post about on here why I “favorited” them and what they can do for you.

Always wanted my own domain name, but was not sure whether to get a .com or .name, so I flipped a coin and here I am.

I love to read and write about the mobile web and the future of the web itself and to paint.

Looking after two children can be a full time job all in itself but I also work as an independent contractor for a national franchising company and will probably go back to work full time when my youngest is old enough to go to school.
