With the holidays coming, my mom has been making plans to host dinners and gatherings at our home in New York. My mother and dad still have the house I grew up in in Westchester, and we all love to head there at Christmas to see them and feel like we are home again.
This year my mom will have some little ones underfoot with my new nieces and nephews, and although she had done a thorough job of childproofing the house when my kids were little, I guess they eased up over the years as my kids grew older. But now she has to worry about installing baby gates and clearing out the lower cabinets or installing babyproof latches and locks on the cabinet doors.
We love to have a fire in the great room on holidays, but with toddlers and babies crawling around, we worry about them getting hurt. That’s why I was tickled to find a fireplace extra wide baby gate that you can set up around the hearth.I found lots of good safety items at the KidSafe web site.
Most important, dad will be installing stairway gates to keep the little ones safe from falling down the stairs. I’ve always worried about the babies falling down stairs and getting hurt, so putting up gates is an important part of child proofing their home. We don’t want anyone to get hurt during the holidays and we sure don’t want preventable injuries to spoil anyone’s visit!
