Soothing Piano Music

My mother used to play the piano for us when we were young. We had to take piano lessons for a year when we were in the 6th grade. That was the rule for all of us – whether we were interested in music or not. I wanted to play the guitar and take guitar lessons, but my mother said I had to learn more about music and how to read music by taking piano lessons first.

At the time I was mad and didn’t really apply myself to the piano lessons. But now that I am older, I realize that she was right and that if I had applied myself they would have let me take guitar lessons. That would sure come in handy now that I live in Music City.

Now I find an odd comfort in listening to piano music while working on computer projects. I put in a CD of a pianist, like Floyd Cramer or Yanni, and it is soothing background music that allows me to concentrate on the project. Music with lyrics tend to be distracting when I have to concentrate. The piano music seems to keep me creative and focused – just what I need.
